Does a GPS receiver report the position of the receiver chip, or the position of the antenna?

If a GPS receiver is connected to a remote antenna, is the position reported to be the location of the receiver or the location of the remote antenna?

Public Comments

  1. Typically it's the positon of the antenna.
  2. The GPS unit calculates position based on information encoded in radio signals received from orbiting satellites. Since the radio signals are received by the antenna, the antenna position is what would be reported by the GPS unit.
