Implanting GPS Chips under a car?

This is for research for my novel. How would you implant a GPS chip underneath a car, even as a law enforcement officer/FBI agent? And if you're a law enforcement officer/FBI agent, how would go about on getting permission to do so?

  1. You would need to get a federal/state warrant from a judge to receive permission to do this and you would also have to have good cause. I am not saying this wouldn't be abused because I know for fact it is. As for tracking people, the FBI now has the technology to track one via that persons cell phone, even if the phone is turned off. Also, anybody already withe a GPS system (Onstar) installed can be tracked.
  2. Most cars already have what is called a lo jack tracking devise in them installed by the manufacture.
  3. Probable cause is all you need to get permission. As a writer my self, I would say write the scene read it then rewrite it till it makes sense to you. Thank you very much, while you're up
  4. actually you are merely following thier car, you are not listening to them or tapping anything, next you have to have a GPS transmitter, not merely a chip, In general it would be done with a magnet to hold it in place under the car, maybe the inside of the bumper. I have not done it, but I see no reason you would need court approval.
  5. easy it is about the size of a memory card and you securely place it on the underneath of vehicle of choice, away from muffler of coarse.not many people work on their own car these days and it is very simple.
