How to buy the right GPS device?

I was thinking about buying a GPS device. The only problem is i don't have like 800 or so dollars to spend on one. How much does a basic GPS cost? What is the difference between hand held GPS and the automobile GPS? I just want one that i can use in case i get lost somewhere. It would be great if you can mention the website to check for good deals as well. Thanks a lot!

  1. Lowrance sells one model, the "iFinder GO", which sells for a little over $60. It's a hand-held one and has maps for the U.S.A. Their web site is at http://www.lowrance.com/ A Google search for a maker and model number should give you leads to many stores so that you can compare prices.
  2. A basic functional GPS will cost about $100.00, or even less if you look through Ebay and Amazon. But these models will give you the bare minimum information. The intermediate models that offer more utility run about $150-$250 The middle and high end gps receivers have more functionality and you'll also need mapping software to go with it. On top of that, you might need a memory card to go with it to put all the data on. The only difference I've seen is automobile GPS tend to have bigger screens. Voice instructions, automatic rerouting etc is all in the software and both handhelds and automobiles can have them. You just have to be willing to pay for it. The following sites has extensive reviews on many types and brands. http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/index.php http://gpsinformation.net/ Good luck with your GPS purchase!
