Outdoors persons: have you used a GPS cell phone/PDA with topo maps? What was the results?

We own a GPS and love it. We use it alot. The thing is absolutely great.
No i don't use those items. I really don't consider that roughing it! Being outdoors and exploring the unknown is great. I don't really care to know there is a hill or river until i meet it head on. However i do understand why people use them, it's conventent. I like my good ol' trusty map and compass. Hope you have fun on all your adventures.
it works only if you know how to use both properly. the problem with GPS and cell phones is people don't really pay attention since they figure they can't get lost using them. as a backup fine but if they are all you have what do you do if they quit somewhere in the back of beyond.
If a person is seriously "roughing it", you should definately have a GPS so you can acurately find your location. I have used my GPS with regular maps, but not topographic ones. The result? I found the correct trail, lake, rivers and campsites. Great thing about a GPS, you can track yourself throughout your whole trip, make notes and mark locations along the way, and you'll always have it. I love GPS's!
