I am looking to buy a portable GPS. Which is better: TomTom or Magellan?

tom tom is better, it is a bigger company plus more people trust tom toms. I heard they are more advanced and have 16,000 more miles of road in its memory.
the maps on a tom tom suck in the country (out of the city) Garmin would be my choice
Is TomTom that has the commercial that makes fun of that other GPS company, if it its then by a TomTom for your car, if youre going outdoors, go to REI (most rediculous expensive stuff) and buy yourself a nice Magellan, because you cant go wrong by a person that has travelled far distances and encountered more stuff you will ever, and they named it after him so it must good.
I've used many different units and have to say Magellan is the best. TomTom is a fairly new player in this technology and doesn't have the same experience or longevity.
