Why do GPS systems come loaded with maps of Puerto Rico?

I had been doing some research on GPS systsms when I noticed that a lot of them come preloaded with maps of USA, Canada and Puerto Rico. I can understand Canada but why Puerto Rico?

Public Comments

  1. It's a US territory
  2. Duh, for people who live in Puerto Rico. The same cars/car systems sold here are sold there too. Also, they could be preparing the systems for the Incredible Floating Boat-Car. You never know.
  3. Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory and is considered to be part of North America.
  4. Probably because Puerto Rico is a commonwealth of the United States ..
  5. The same cars are sold in Puerto Rico (PR). It's probably cheaper to leave the GPS system "as is." Note: I grew up in PR and all the cars have HEATERS......never ever to be used........it's already HOT there. Funny enough, it's been just a few years that cars are left with the CRUISE CONTROL on them. In the past, they were not in the car. Sad enough, the driving is worse now than it was then. Besides, the roads are so crowded you can't really use the cruise control. GPS......maybe there's an "underground" tunnel being built.... ; )
  6. Puerto Rico, is part the the USA terriorty
  7. Puerto Rico, though not a state, is a US territory.
